"Veteran Lion Seeks Trade Back to Hawks, Yearns to Return Home"
Jack Gunston Eyes Hawthorn Return After Year-Long Stint with Brisbane.
Jack Gunston's Journey: A Tough Transition to Brisbane
After a challenging period with the Hawks, where he played just one game in 2021 due to injury and struggled to regain fitness in 2022, Jack Gunston embarked on a new chapter by joining the Brisbane Lions at the end of 2022. The move was further complicated by the sudden and tragic loss of his father, Ray, a former Essendon and AFL administrator.
Gunston kicked off his 2023 season with the Lions, but he faced a rocky road in terms of form. Following a surprising loss to Hawthorn at the MCG in round 13, Gunston, along with fellow veteran Daniel Rich, found himself out of the team.
However, he made a comeback in round 17, leaving a significant mark by scoring six goals against West Coast. Unfortunately, his season took a turn for the worse when he suffered a knee injury in round 22, forcing him to miss the Lions' Grand Final campaign.
Approaching his 32nd birthday, Gunston, who has played 242 games and booted 452 goals over his 14-season career with Adelaide, Hawthorn, and Brisbane, now faces a pivotal moment as he expresses his desire to return to his former club, Hawthorn.
